Following socialist movements and revolutions that challenged the longstanding influence of the Monroe Doctrine, Caribbean nations set out to forge their futures and escape the shadows of U.S. bullying and interventions. In response, and facing the threat of a diminished sphere of influence, the United States employed military, covert and economic tactics to safeguard its interests in the region and curb the momentum of political shifts that challenge its dominance.

For over two centuries, the Monroe Doctrine has cast a pervasive shadow over the Caribbean, shaping U.S. foreign policy in the region. This historic policy has been invoked as a tool for U.S. hegemony and influence, aimed at securing U.S. interests in the Caribbean. 200 years later, it is clear that the days of the antiquated Monroe Doctrine are numbered, the people of the Caribbean refuse to be the U.S’. backyard!
