Understanding Project 2025 in depth puts us in a better position to expose the plans of the right wing and the true political character of the Trump campaign. It allows us to prepare for what may come and formulate alternative proposals that can be the basis of struggle. Nina Simone composed “Mississippi Goddam”--her biting song about racial injustice--in September 1963, immediately after four young girls in Birmingham, Alabama, died in a church bombing. It reflected her growing determination to be part of the Civil Rights movement, at the insistence of her friend, playwright and author Lorraine Hansberry.

"Whipped Peter" is the name of the photo of a formerly enslaved man named Gordon whose 1863 photograph showing severe scarring from whippings became one of the most widely circulated images exposing slavery's brutality. The Trump administration has ordered the National Art Gallery to remove the photo, in addition to any other mention/exhibits documenting the horrors and truth of slavery in the U.S.
