History is propelled by the struggle of our people across the world. The past year opened a new phase in the fight against US colonialism and imperialism. As the center of the battle focuses on Palestinian liberation, the masses in the millions, across all continents, have risen up and found new strength in the face of their oppressors.

There is no better time to study the long history of the peoples’ movements that have led to this moment. Armed with the lessons of histories and dreams of a liberated future, we will investigate the conditions confronting those who fought before us, the tactics they used to navigate through them, and the visions they made concrete for what a socialist future would hold–all so that we can continue to advance our struggle wherever our fight may be.

  • This course is for organizers, visionaries, and all history students willing to study historical national liberation struggles to strengthen and advance our movements today! Everyone is welcome to apply from all contexts, backgrounds, and identities. We encourage applications from those involved in or seeking to become involved in political organizations.

Participants can join the course in two ways:

Self-Paced: Participants have the flexibility to engage with the course depending on their schedule and can

    A) attend live classes when they can or

    B) view the recordings at a time that suits their schedule and time zone. All participants will receive weekly emails that contain information regarding the week’s classes, discussion forums, and reading materials. For participants who cannot join the live classes but would still like to engage in the course, recordings will be promptly uploaded to the student portal after each class. To complete the self-paced track, participants can engage with the course at their own pace and submit reflections upon completing each module.

Collective Work Track: This track is for participants who would like to take on the full dimensions of the course and have additional time to engage in in-depth research. In addition to the above, participants will be placed in a workgroup with other participants and meet weekly outside of class for collective discussion and to work on a collaborative project. Groups will receive weekly prompts to guide their project work throughout the course for submission a week after the course ends.

  • This 8-week course runs from March 14 to May 2, with an orientation on March 5. Each week, classes will be mainly held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6:30 – 8:30 PM ET, with some exceptions. Participants in the collective work track will designate a day and time to meet with their group outside of class time. If you live in a different time zone and can’t attend live classes, the recordings will be shared right after each class.

  • This is a hybrid course, so that participants can join the course from anywhere in the world!
