SCIENCE AGAINST CAPITALISM: EXITING THE CLIMATE CRISIS
Function and Limits of Technological Interventions
With Ansar Fayyazuddin and Andres Chang
Rapacious and limitless profit-making, the central drive of capitalist production, is in contradiction with ecological balance. As ecological disasters ravage the earth, very few immediate actions to end fossil fuel consumption and preventing ecocide are being taken. Instead, the promise of future technologies is offered. We will discuss the ideological function of technology in shifting the parameters of how the ecological crisis is conceptualized and the inherent inadequacy of proposed future technologies to address what is urgently needed to be dealt with now.
