SCIENCE AGAINST CAPITALISM:
THE ROLE OF BIOPHYSICAL SCIENCES IN BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE FOR ALL
Register for individual sessions here
In just the past few months, floods have killed and displaced millions of people, wildfires burned through forests, temperatures rose to unbearable highs, and communities have lost access to drinkable water. It is clear that the environmental and climate crises are no longer a possibility in the future, they are a reality today and have already been for many communities.
Human society has the potential to not only slow down and eventually ward off the crisis but also to build practices and ways of living that can ensure the well-being of all people and a liveable planet. But the interests of capitalism lie elsewhere. The wealthiest countries continue to rapidly accelerate our own destruction for the profit of the few, with the poor and marginalized in the world long suffering the consequences, even though we have the knowledge and the tools to secure a decent future for the world’s majority.
Science Against Capitalism aims to bring biophysical science education into conversation with people and movements who refuse to accept the assured devastations wrought by the capitalist path. We will learn from those who have developed deep scientific expertise in the dynamics of our planet, our ecological systems, as well as the scientific and technological advancements of our people, in order to better understand how we can fight to build a healthy, equitable, and socialist future.
Each month, join us for a lecture and discussion with a scientist in the biophysical sciences who will show how their research and findings help advance social justice. Those who are interested in deeper study are welcome to join our discussion cohort- the form to register can be found here.
